This project will help coal fired power stations reduce their carbon emissions... Alot.

I have invented a machine that can turn organic waste from trees (such as wood chips) into biocoal. The concept for the machine has been validated by engineers. I need $3,000 to do the design work which will lead to the building of a prototype. (How exciting! : )

Biocoal is a clean and renewable coal substitute made from woody waste that looks like coal and burns as hot as coal but that emits 90% less CO2, and no toxic gasses.

Biocoal has been around for a few decades but has never been used on a commercial scale (like in coal fired power stations) because there was no machine the could efficiently convert large quantities of organic waste into biocoal (until now that is : )

The process that is used is called "torrefaction", which is a well known process that has been around for a hundred years.

Each year sustainably managed forestry plantations produce hundreds of millions of tons of forest waste; but unfortunately because there are currently no markets for this waste it is all burned : ( I plan to use this renewable resource to help the coal fired power stations produce clean power. It can be done and is already being done in a small way in some countries.

I have spoken to the power companies, they have told me that they have already conducted successful trials with biocoal and they do want to use it but there are no suppliers who can supply large quantities because of the lack of technology.

If I am able to raise more than the $3,000 needed for the design I will also be able to make a start on the prototype (which would be awesome!)
